kwame mintah - the artist

origin story of

theVillageENT.

The poetry as countless of people (“villagers”) know of today all originated in late 2019 as Kwame Mintah (musician name Aikeem Vill) was in the process of completing his debut project, an EP titled, The Villager’s Asylum. Throughout the later end of the creation of the EP, Kwame’s creative juices flowed as he began to feel more compelled to write. Kwame took to his social media to share captions written in prose that he would later label as poetic sentiments. Through his consistency and interest from his then follower count of a few hundred, Kwame was encouraged to create a separate page where he would exclusively share poetry, positive words of substance/affirmation, and accompanying love-centered photography that would compliment the written content and create an aesthetic for the new account.

This was the birth of thevillagewrds and subsequently, theVillageENT.

Throughout the following year and into lockdown, the account experienced a surge in growth, with hundreds of new followers coming in on a daily basis. Kwame remained consistent throughout this period, writing at least three poems a day for most of the year. As supporters grew, so did the interest in a physical collection of the poetry being shared; a supporter even wrote, “do you have a poetry book out yet?? because I would devour it like a rupi kaur book.” This sentiment was one that became commonly felt within the thevillage community for the next two years and as faith would have it, the time has finally come to fulfill this demand.
